Carden Green Cottage is gorgeous: beautifully decorated by the owner, who chooses fabrics from top design houses, quirky antiques and superb fittings. Its peaceful location in a quiet hamlet is like a setting from another era, with an pretty village green and picture-book cottages around it. Lovely views from the bedroom window extend across unspoilt south Cheshire countryside to the Welsh hills beyond. Its beautiful bedrooms with top quality beds and splendid bathroom would put many a boutique hotel to shame. Semi-detached, but private, this delightful holiday cottage is a Victorian gem which has been painstakingly modernised using only traditional methods, so as to retain the integrity of the old building. Sleeps 2 to 4 in two double bedrooms with king-size beds (plus an infant and a dog, but only children over 8 years old).

Downstairs, the panelled entrance hall, boasting an antique oak coffer and an internet connection point, leads into a well-proportioned sitting-room with two sumptuous sofas and an armchair, a wood burning stove and a concealed flat-screen TV with DVD. There is an Inglenook fireplace, Victorian cupboards, the original 19th Century quarry-tiled floor, some antique pictures and decorative pieces. The dining-room, with its original black-leaded cooking range – a real museum piece – and antique oak table, chairs and dresser (complete with Denby pottery and crystal glassware), leads out to a Victorian tiled terrace. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed, with everything in place to make the cook happy, including a granite work surface, and all the equipment required for relaxed cooking. A downstairs loo and a laundry room complete the practicalities.

Upstairs, two lovely bedrooms with king-size handmade British beds and the finest laundered bedlinen promise the best of sleeps. The bathroom with bath, power shower, hand basin and loo, is luxuriously swathed in marble mosaic and Travertine stone.

The pretty cottage garden has a terrace, a lawn, apple trees, a summer house and a garden table and chairs, all enclosed by a sandstone wall.

Availability, pricing & how to book
Changeovers are normally Mondays and Fridays (enquire about other days). Weekends are set-priced from Friday 4pm to either Sunday evening or Monday 10.30am; so you can stay 1, 2 or 3 nights for the weekend price. If there are only 2 nights available, this shorter weekend will be priced down accordingly.
