Set in a stunning, secluded location at the end of a long private track, Coed Barn is a contemporary, luxury barn conversion in the foothills of the Black Mountains. Look at this review for Coed Barn. Designed by award-winning architect Anthony Hudson, the barn is situated on the side of a hill with woods behind, and fabulous views of both the Brecon Beacons to the west and the Black Mountains to the south-east. Superlative sunsets, wheeling Red Kites, and great walking straight from the door make this a very special place. Coed Barn sleeps 4 (plus an infant) in 2 very comfortable double bedrooms. Coed Barn's large glazed barn doors flood the building with light, and open out onto the enclosed garden with its lawn and flagstone terraces. Sitting out on the terraces and enjoying sunshine very late into the evening (followed by a dramatic sunset), is a perk of staying in this lovely place. Garden furniture, a BBQ and a fire-pit make good weather outdoor living great fun. At the bottom of the hill, a stream rushes down towards Talgarth, providing a great place for splashing about on a hot day or for children to play in. The woods are perfect for games of hide and seek or making dens.
With high ceilings to the rafters, the spacious, open plan, slate-floored sitting-room has comfortable L-shaped seating, a flat-screen TV with Free-Sat, DVD and Wi-Fi. The barn, which has been insulated to a high standard with both comfort and the environment in mind, is warmed by a contemporary and very efficient wood burning stove, as well as under-floor heating.

The kitchen area has a double oven with a five-ring gas hob, microwave, very large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier, a dining-table and six chairs. A selection of cookery books is provided, too - such a boon for holiday cooking inspiration, and helps make the most of this lovely kitchen. A stylish wet room leads off the half landing next to one of the bedrooms, and there is a beautiful contemporary bathroom upstairs. An upstairs galleried walkway looks over the ground floor – so the barn isn’t recommended for people whose small children like to climb. Upstairs, there is also a comfortable sitting-area on the gallery, which has a sofa, a desk and chair, another Ipod speaker, and a bookcase with books and games - a nice place to relax, to catch up on emails, or to sit and read quietly.
Things to do around this holiday cottage in Wales
There are miles of uninterrupted walks immediately from the barn, as it is situated on a network of footpaths, and close to the Rhos Fach Common. It is possible to walk to Hay-on-Wye or to Abergavenny over the mountains, accompanied only by wild ponies, sheep and Red Kites. The ancient woodland and waterfall of Pwll-y-Wrach is nearby.
The nearby small hamlet of Llanelieu is a small church settlement with a preserved medieval church, no longer used for services, but with an impressive fourteenth-century rood screen and painted loft; just outside the church, set into an ancient Yew Tree, are the old village stocks.
Two miles away from the barn is the market town of Talgarth with its pubs, restaurants and shops for supplies. Coed Barn is perfectly located between the vibrant town of Hay-on-Wye (9 miles) and Brecon (8 miles) at the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Crickhowell is about 10 miles away and Abergavenny, with its Food Festival and castle, is 20 miles away. There are several pony trekking centres nearby, and all types of outdoor pursuits can be arranged, from activities at the Climbing Centre, to canoeing and sailing at Llangorse Lake. Mountain bikes can be hired locally. The Gliding Club at Talgarth is the most beautifully situated airfield set right in the centre of the mountains. The dramatic walks of the Beacons are close by.
No dogs allowed due to neighbouring livestock.
