A beautiful house originating from the 16th-century, and added to over the centuries, Brynadda has recently been sensitively, imaginatively and generously restored by its owner (who also did the renovation on her superb mill, Felin Idris). It is a clever fusion of traditional and modern: some lovely furniture, paintings, decorative objects and wallpapers allude to its 19th and early 20th century incarnations; and the superb luxurious modern bathrooms, quirky lighting, sophisticated entertainment features, and ecologically-sound bio-mass heating technology take the house firmly into the twenty-first century. But this house is perfectly robust, making it the perfect venue for a mixed-age holiday - it is baby, child, teenager AND adult friendly. There is something to suit every age, from fun and games in the garden, to hanging out in the cinema/games room, to relaxing in the sauna or sitting quietly in the cottage garden. And all this without even leaving the property!

On the ground floor, the house comprises a beautiful drawing-room, a panelled dining-room with an enormous table to seat up to 20 people, a kitchen, a utility-room, and a relaxed sitting-room/TV room. There is also a third sitting-room which, along with a wet-room shower (inlcuing loo and hand basin) and a ground-floor double-bedroom (with king-size bed), is effectively a self-contained suite or apartment, complete with external disabled access. There is also a downstairs WC.

Upstairs, there is one bedroom with a double bed, two bedrooms with king-size beds, and three bedrooms with super-king-size zip-and-link beds, which can be separated into twins if preferred. There is also a gorgeous little bedroom with ‘shorty’ bunks for children. There are two bathrooms and two shower-rooms, plus a separate loo.

Outside, a handsome stone outbuilding has been converted to house an entertainment room with a 50-inch flat screen TV/DVD for a cinema-style experience, and various games, plus some garage space. Another outbuilding has been converted into a sauna, complete with a shower and changing room.

The garden is wonderful – lots of secret spaces as well as wooded areas, terrace and lawns. There is a sunny cottage garden, too, with a beautiful view up onto the hill behind the house. A field runs straight from the garden up to the hill, where, from the top, there are magnificent views across to Cader Idris. Visitors can hike or horse ride off-road from the house for camping adventures, picnics, or day-long expeditions. Or, leaving the house from the other side, visitors can join the Mawddach Trail, a former railway line, which is now a superb 9 ½ mile path for cyclists or walkers along the spectacular Mawddach Estuary. This is perfect for families with young children, as it is both scenic and flat.

Things to do around around the holiday cottage near dolgellau
Dolgellau, just a few minutes’ drive from Brynadda, is a really handsome dark-stoned town, beautifully situated in the southern Snowdonia mountains – perfect for access to both the National Park and the sea. Dolgellau is a conservation area, and has over 200 listed buildings - more than any other town in Wales. Here you will find attractive old streets, unspoilt shop-fronts, providing all the food shopping you will need, as well as some good places to eat out (Cross Foxes, Penmaenuchaf, Dylanwad Da, Bwty Mawddach, Y Sospan and Y Meirionnydd).

A pretty 8-mile drive along the north of the Mawddach Estuary takes you to the buckets-and-spades seaside-town of Barmouth, with its two miles of golden sandy beaches – great for surfers.. Peaceful Fairbourne and stylish Aberdyfi are good places to visit, too. Activities in the area are varied and extensive, so there is something for everyone, from steam trains and beaches to testing off-road bike trails and mountain climbs for those in search of something more challenging. Walking, horse-riding, bird-watching, kayaking and rafting, golf and water sports are all on the doorstep. Go Ape, a few miles away at Coed Y Brenin mountain bike trail centre is fantastic for children. Majestic Harlech Castle, a World Heritage site, is a must-see, and symbolises all the romance, myth and drama of this extraordinary part of the country. Seen from the outcrop of rock to the south of the town of Harlech, the view of the castle in its setting of sea and mountain is utterly breath-taking.
