This gorgeous tip-top-of-the-range-comfortable holiday cottage for a couple makes the perfect romantic honeymoon or ‘minimoon’ escape, or simply a restful place to come and enjoy the extensive pleasures of the Pembrokeshire coast. Once a simple cowshed, it is now beautifully furnished, properly equipped, and with a bedroom and bathroom which wouldn’t look out of place in a top boutique hotel. Ffynnon Fair overlooks an extensive garden, with lawns, streams, orchard, vegetable plot, landscaped banks and private woodland. The highlight is the pond, surrounded by native wild flowers and fed by the ancient sacred well of Ffynnon Fair (Mary’s Well). One infant and one well-behaved dog are welcome.

Ffynnon Fair is situated on the edge of the village of Eglwyswrw, close to Cardigan, with all its useful shops, and only 7 minutes’ drive from the pretty seaside town of Newport, with its fabulous sandy beach and excellent restaurants. The owner ( whose bara brith has to be a contender for Best in Wales), grows lots of vegetables in her garden, and supplies them to visitors when in season, as well as fresh eggs from her hens, and pretty flowers cut from the garden.

The bedroom has an enormous, luxurious super-king bed with a headboard covered in a lovely weave from the renowned Melin Tregwynt; the bathroom is super-luxurious, with a wonderful contemporary bath, a huge wet-room shower, stylish fittings, fluffy towels and bath robes; and the kitchen, painted in a pretty, restful grey-blue, is superbly fitted out with everything needed for self-catering. The cosy sitting area, at the other end of the spacious open-plan living area, has two sofas (one each!) facing a first-rate wood burner. The cottage looks out via generous stable doors onto its own private garden on one side; and onto the lovely big garden the other side, which visitors are invited to explore and enjoy.

Things to do around this holiday cottage in Pembrokeshire, Wales
Happily for walkers, Ffynnon Fair is only five miles from the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path; while the Preseli mountains, with ancient monuments, wild ponies and panoramic views, are the same distance away inland. The holy well in the garden, Ffynnon Fair (Mary’s Well), after which the cottage is named, is on an ancient pilgrimage route to St. David’s. The nearby village of Nevern is on the route and has a very famous church, with probably one of the best examples of a Celtic cross and a 'bleeding' yew tree.
North Pembrokeshire is defined by its rugged landscape, vernacular buildings, beautiful beaches, outstanding wildlife and historic sites, but there is so much more, too: you can fish, play golf, go pony-trekking, visit wildlife havens and enjoy water sports within a very reasonable driving distance from Eglwyswrw. Cardigan Bay is home to a rich variety of wildlife, from playful bottle-nose dolphins, to seals, basking sharks, and even the occasional minke or humpback whale. Great boat trips will take you right up close to the wildlife.
Lovers of good eating will be very happy to find some excellent places to eat in and around Newport. The Cnapan and Llys Meddyg are pitched at the ‘fine dining’ end, while there are plenty of cafes, bistros and pubs in the town for really good medium-priced meals, such as The Canteen (01239 820131) for eating in or taking out. For fish-lovers, there is a café/restaurant, The Old Sailors (01348 811491), tucked into the lee of Dinas Island, only yards from the beach. There’s not much nicer than eating a bowl full of mussels (with chips on the side) after a stint on the beach, watching the waves and the occasional distant ferry from Ireland. It’s great for crab and lobster, too. The Shed at Porthgain is an award-winning establishment, a favourite of the owner, and at 24 miles from Ffynnon Fair, makes a good spot for lunch as part of a sightseeing trip between St. David’s and Strumble Head.

Availability, pricing & how to book
Changeovers are normally Mondays and Fridays (enquire about other days). Weekends are set-priced from Friday 4pm to either Sunday evening or Monday 10.30am; so you can stay 1, 2 or 3 nights for the weekend price. If there are only 2 nights available, this shorter weekend will be priced down accordingly.
