Hay Bluff Cottage is perfectly located in the stunning countryside of the Black Mountains, within walking distance of Hay-on-Wye. It is a lovely, peaceful place for just staying and enjoying the cottage, with its pretty, private, enclosed garden; or as a base for making expeditions into the dramatic hills of the Brecon Beacons National Park to take part in the many outdoor activities on offer. Hay-on-Wye, famous for its second-hand bookshops and yearly literary festival, is three-quarters of a mile away. It has great antique markets, galleries, food and home-ware shops; and superb ice creams and cappuccinos can be found in the cafes and ice-cream parlours. There are plenty of good pubs within walking distance, too. Hay Bluff Cottage is perfect for up to four adults and two children in two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom.

Downstairs, the cottage has a comfortable sitting-room with a fabulously good wood burner, two sofas, an armchair and French windows with a view onto the garden. Next door, is a bathroom with bath, shower over, wash hand basin and loo. There is a good-sized, bright, airy kitchen with marble work surfaces, kitchen table and antique dresser; and a cosy dining room with a wood burner and a flag stone floor. The wooden staircase is a wonderful old feature, which takes you upstairs to two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. All have lovely views, and there is a separate loo with wash hand basin, too.

The large garden, comprising lawned area, pond, orchard, wild garden and stream, is enclosed back and front by gates. Lovely for watching wildlife, the garden has pretty views over hills and farmland, and is set beside a very quiet lane.

Things to do around Hay Bluff Cottage and Hay-on-wye
Hay Bluff Cottage enjoys the best of both worlds: although surrounded by lovely, lyrical countryside, Hay-on-Wye is but a short walk away - great for buying forgotten essentials, but also for enjoying this very individual and fascinating town. Go home with a stash of second-hand books, bought for a song at one of the many bookshops, or invest in a rare first-edition; visit lovely shops, such as The Great English Outdoors for really original presents, including locally-made leather goods and vintage Welsh blankets. The Globe is a really 'happening' venue for art and music festivals, and productions of all kinds. Canoe Hire for going down the Wye is a great way to spend a day, and the horse riding is wonderful too.
