This little wooden house is smartly black-clapboarded on the outside, and beautifully fitted out inside with white woodwork and lovely decorative touches. A perfect space for a couple (plus an infant and a dog), the Little House is small but designed to be spacious, with everything ship-shape and in its place. Cosy and snug in the winter, it has a superb wood burner and an endless supply of logs; but its big French doors all open wide to catch summer breezes and to enjoy inside-outside warm-weather living.

Downstairs, the open-plan living-room comprises a dining-area, a sitting-area and a spacious kitchen (plus a shower room in the corner). The room is very effectively warmed by a top quality wood burner, but there is electric back-up if the weather is particularly cold. The owner, who is a dedicated ‘upcycler’ has refurbished furniture, used recycled materials and bought items from Ebay and vintage stores. She has a strong green philosophy, which is reflected in the little house, with its eco-energy, negligible carbon footprint, and use of organic, recycled and Fairtrade products. None of these compromises on comfort, however, and this little house will make you feel cocooned, looked-after, and peacefully restored.

Upstairs, a mezzanine level has a double bed and an ensuite loo and hand basin. The stove pipe goes up into this room from below, and warms the space beautifully.
Outside, there is an enclosed sitting-area bounded by a willow fence. French doors open out to a table and chairs and a chiminea.

The Wye Valley, where it winds through the ancient Forest of Dean, is a particularly special area – not least that the river in this stretch is a dedicated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Beautiful walks abound, as do places to visit, and outdoor activities. There are plenty of good places to eat out and fine shops in the old county town of Monmouth for food (and other) shopping. Famous Tintern Abbey, inspiration for poets and artists, as well as evidence of the wrath of Henry V111’s reformation, is a short drive away. Closer to home, Brockweir village has mysterious ancient buildings and fascinating higgledy-piggledy houses on quiet, mossy-walled lanes – perfect for idle strolling. Bridleways and ‘fairy’ footpaths lead you through woodland and along the grassy river bank, a haven for dogs and humans alike.
