Indulge your childhood fantasies about running away with the gypsies by staying in an original Romany wagon or 'Vardo' in the middle of lovely Monmouthshire countryside. The gypsy caravan is situated in the nook of a field with a view of the foothills of the romantic Black Mountains. The fields round about, which make up the peaceful sheep farm, are designated as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Beautifully carved and painted, the Romany caravan has been lovingly restored by Romanies from Ireland, and it has allusions to its Irishness in various places. The inside of the Romany caravan, surprisingly roomy, is very cosy, with a pull-out double bed and a cupboard bed for a smallish child underneath. There is an electric heater, as well as a high-quality duvet, sumptuous pillows, cushions and, for chilly nights, two hot water bottles. Next to the Romany gypsy caravan is a little dark green 'Shack', with all the comforts inside - bathroom, complete with large shower, loo, wash hand basin and little roll-top bath; and a living-room with a neat little kitchen, a sofa, a pull-out table (with 3 folding chairs), a radio/CD-player, a radiator and an antique French shepherd's stove. The verandah is perfect for sitting out on warm summer evenings and watching the sun slip down behind the hills.
The luxury Romany caravan to rent for a holiday sleeps 2 (ideal for a special honeymoon!), as well as a baby or small child (up to approximately age 5) in the cupboard bed. Weekly lets are available, as are weekends, long weekends and midweek breaks. Prices for a week vary from £280 to £420, depending on the time of year. Also, there may well be last-minute discounts - so it's always worth trying for a spontaneous last-minute break away from the routine of daily life.
Bedding and towels, soap and loo paper are included in the price, as is electricity, hot water and fuel. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped for its size, and comprises hob, sink and microwave.
Dogs are welcome (but not in the caravan) if very well-behaved (as there are sheep and other animals on the farm) and up to date on worm/flea treatments.
