One of two beautifully restored Victorian miners’ cottages, Nant Fechan is perfect for 2 to 6 people. (Or it can be rented together with its neighbour Graig Fechan to provide accommodation for up to 12 people.) Perfectly situated for access to beaches on the Gower Peninsular, or the mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this charming cottage (a labour of love by its owners) makes a luxurious 5-star escape for couples or families. A great cottage for cooks, its extensively and thoughtfully equipped kitchen makes 'self-catering' an extremely enjoyable option. A dedicated bike store and equipment-drying room also makes this a great choice for serious walkers and cyclists. Nant Fechan (and its sister cottage, Graig Fechan) won Highly Commended and were finalists in the Best Self-Catering Accommodation and Best Newcomer categories in the 2010 Swansea Bay Tourism Awards.

Nant Fechan is situated on a quiet side road on the edge of Pontardawe, right by a stream that tumbles down the hillside. The owners have overseen all the restoration and taken part in most of it. The work has been done to a superb standard, from beautiful reclaimed parquet flooring on the ground floor and hand stencilling on the stairs, to a superb stone-tiled bathroom and wet room.

Downstairs, there is a roomy sitting-room with a fantastic American wood burning stove, a dining-room, a spacious top-of-the-range and beautifully equipped kitchen, a utility room (with washing machine and tumble dryer) and a wet room shower with loo. Upstairs, there is a lovely master bedroom with king-size bed, a smaller room with adult-size bunk beds, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with bath, shower, bidet, wash hand basin and loo, luxuriously lined from floor to ceiling with Travertine tiles. Outside, there is a sunny sitting area with garden furniture for relaxing and listening to the stream flowing past the cottage, or for meals al fresco in the summer.

'Thanks so much for giving us this lovely home – it's been great to get a bunch of friends and family together, time rarely spent these days. The house has been fantastic, a base to go on many adventures, a den to stay in, eat, sleep and play. We hope to see Andrew and Fiona again soon.' Joris , Freshford
'What a great cottage for a winter break! We have been very comfortable and warm and cosy, even when it snowed! We have found plenty to do in the surrounding area to keep us and our boys (aged 3 and 6) well occupied. Thank you for looking after us so well. We've had a lovely week and hope to return.' The Rowes, Devon
'We would like to thank Fiona and Andrew for their hospitality. I am disabled spending a lot of time in a wheelchair and staying in this cottage has been lovely. Everything has been comfortable and homely and we hope to come back another time and will have great pleasure in letting our friends and family know what a lovely place this is, so once again a big thank you to Fiona and Andrew for their lovely welcome and thoughtfulness.' Mr and Mrs Wilkes and family, Cornwall
