Imagine a perfect coastal cottage and you would have to come up with this one. Nanternis Cottage is recently restored, and beautifully decorated by the owners, one of whom is a designer by trade. Sweet and heart-stoppingly pretty, this is a lovely romantic cottage for a couple, or for a little family of up to two adults and two children (plus a babyand a dog). It avoids cliché through its pared-back, contemporary and very beautiful styling. Generously and comfortably equipped, Nanternis Cottage makes the ideal seaside escape for holidays, honeymoons, or short breaks.

Downstairs, the entrance opens onto a good-sized sitting/dining-room with a nice deep sofa, two comfortable armchairs, a dining-table and a wood burning stove. The kitchen next door is beautifully equipped, and has its own front door.

Upstairs (which can be gated off from above), there is a lovely bright double bedroom, a nifty little bunk bedroom for children (with 'shorty' bunks) and a fabulous contemporary bathroom with wash hand basin, loo, bath and power shower.

The garden is a treat: thoughtfully planted, and private. Sloping upwards behind the cottage, it climbs up – firstly - to a pretty, sheltered gravelled area surrounded by plants, with a honeysuckle-covered archway up to the next level. The next section comprises a series of raised beds for herbs and flowers and, at the top, a sitting-area, which looks across towards the hills opposite. Being the sunniest spot, this is the perfect place to end the day. For morning sun, a little flagged area with table and chairs at the front of the house is the place to sit for an outdoor breakfast.

Things to do around Nanternis cottagE, one of the prettiest coastal cottages in Wales
The charming village of Nanternis is only three miles from the lovely coastal seaside town of New Quay, with its two glorious sandy beaches. It offers dolphin-spotting boat trips and water sport equipment hire in the summer season. Shops sell all sorts of things for family fun, from shrimping nets to good Welsh ice-cream. Eleven miles north of Nanternis lies Aberaeron with its beautiful horseshoe-shaped harbour flanked by picturesque colourful Georgian houses. The restaurant in the Harbourmaster (a handsome hotel, which looks out - as its name suggests - over the harbour) is really excellent. It is definitely worth the pilgrimage, especially with an appetite sharpened by the fresh sea air. Two unmissable beaches in the area are at Llangrannog (4 1/2 miles from the cottage, and with a good cafe); and Mwnt Beach, a short distance north of Cardigan, which has a lovely big sandy area at low tide, a pretty little church up on the hill and lots of beautiful wild flowers on the cliff-tops.

There are many places to explore in the immediate surroundings of the cottage. The National Trust shingle beach of Cwmtydu is 1 1/2 miles from Nanternis; and a beautiful walk directly from the cottage takes you through National Trust-owned woodland to the small secluded beach of Traith Soden. This beach is only accessible by foot (there is no road to it), and here you can join the coastal path to go north or south, or simply stay and enjoy the beach - often in complete isolation. The Ceredigion Coastal path is truly stunning: it takes you through wild and spectacular scenery, past picturesque villages, and through interesting wildlife habitats. This coastal path boasts the highest number of dolphin sightings in the UK.
The Cardi Bach bus service between Cardigan and New Quay runs every day except Wednesday between the end of June and the end of September. It also continues for three days a week for the remainder of the year. It goes in both directions (north and south), and passes by the cottage, providing a great opportunity to explore different sections of the coastal path without having to backtrack. There is no bus stop - you just need to hail it.

For food shopping, farm shops and useful little supermarkets are conveniently close, and Cardigan has lots of good shops. A local farmer will even deliver organic vegetable boxes to visitors in the cottage (details will be in the cottage itself). For eating out, The Harbourmaster in Aberaeron is a really good bet, or, for more local food, the Crown Inn (less than a mile from the cottage in Llwyndafydd) serves really good home made food and has an excellent range of real ales. There is also a nice little cafe and deli next to the town hall in Aberaeron, which sells the most delicious thick Spanish hot chocolate. The Beach Hut cafe and The Ship at Llangrannog are both really good, too: the former for a snack while enjoying the beach; the latter for a good, more substantial, lunch, or for an evening meal.

Availability, pricing & how to book
Changeovers are normally Mondays and Fridays (enquire about other days). Weekends are set-priced from Friday 4pm to either Sunday evening or Monday 10.30am; so you can stay 1, 2 or 3 nights for the weekend price. If there are only 2 nights available, this shorter weekend will be priced down accordingly.
