Sleeps 2 to 4 in a double and a twin
The Old Stable is one of the beautiful farm buildings on this unique farm steading, whose origins date back to the sixteenth-century; and the cottage was, until recently, a part-ruined stable, now carefully restored with authentic building materials. This little vernacular building has become a really comfortable holiday cottage in an extraordinary location. It is situated a field away from the little hillside church of St. Issui at Partrishow, and is on the famous Beacons Way. This walk can take you 161 miles from beginning to end; but locally, it leads you through some of the most magnificent unspoilt countryside in Britain – the heart of the Black Mountains. Sleeps 2 to 4 in a double and a twin, plus an infant and a well-behaved dog.

The bedrooms, a twin and a double, are situated on the ground floor, as is the bathroom with its, loo, hand basin, large bath and overhead shower.

A newly made handsome oak staircase takes you up to the living room, a charming space extending the length and breadth of the building, with vaulted ceilings, oak beams and the original stable window openings. One end is a comfortable sitting-area with a sofa, armchair and wood burning stove; the other is the kitchen area. A dining-table and chairs stand between.

Outside, there is a area of garden for enjoying good weather with garden furniture and a barbecue. Footpaths take you straight from the house into the hills; and up a field behind Tyn y Llwyn, is situated the lovely church of St. Issui, with its beautiful intricate rood screen, medieval murals, wild daffodils in spring, and panoramic views.

Tyn y Llwyn farmhouse was originally a Welsh longhouse, housing animals as well as people, but was modernised in the mid-seventeenth-century. This is the building you see today, with its mullioned windows and leaded lights, and the main chimneystack is carved with the date 1649 to celebrate the improvements. Another special feature of this farm is the quantity and quality of unspoilt farm buildings still standing, making you feel as if you have been transported to another century.

Things to do IN AND AROUND the Black Mountains
The Black Mountains are quite literally on your doorstep, which in turn comprise the eastern reaches of the famous Brecon Beacons National Park. This is unsurpassed walking country, both for scenery and wildlife. Although you can find real seclusion in the hills, you are never too far from useful and beautiful villages or towns – Abergavenny (‘Gateway to Wales’) is 15 minutes away, Crickhowell is the same, and the lovely hamlet of Llanthony with its ruined Cistercian priory (complete with pub inside its walls) is 20 minutes’ drive up the spectacular Llanthony Valley. Hay-on-Wye is within reach for a fascinating day out, with its second-hand bookshops, galleries, antique markets and boutiques, and getting there over Gospel Pass is a highlight, if views are your thing.
