Rhyd Ddu Bach, or Little Black Ford, is a beautiful cottage on the gentle slopes above the Escley Brook in the foothills of the Black Mountains. This is wonderful unspoilt border country: rural, peaceful, timeless, full of wildlife, away from it all. But this comfortable farmhouse, set on a smallholding, isnít far from great things to see and do, including Hay-on-Wye, and isnít far from excellent amenities. Sleeps 2-4 adults, plus 2 children, an infant, and up to 2 good dogs.

Lovely large self-catering kitchen

This cottage is spacious inside, with a sitting-room, play-room-cum-snug (with a chaise longue and a bed with trundle underneath for two children) and a large kitchen/dining-room. The kitchen has an old bread oven - a picturesque reminder of how things were cooked in earlier times. It has a glazed door opening out onto a terrace, fields beyond, and mountain views. On this floor, there is also a big family bathroom with bath, separate shower, loo and hand basin. Beautiful oak flooring throughout the ground floor lends a honey-coloured warmth to the interior.

Outside, there is a stone-flagged terrace for sitting in privacy to admire the view, have a BBQ, or watch children play. The adjacent field is for the use of visitors to Rhyd Ddu Bach, making a wonderful space for children and dogs to run around and play games. This is a wonderful place for lovers of nature: guests can walk through the wildflower meadow, with orchids, bluebells, meadowsweet, cowlips in season - and many more, down to the stream, where there is an abundance of birdlife, brown trout to fish, and pools for children to play in.
