What a luxury to stay in this splendid house so close to the centre of Hay-on-Wye, with all that this fascinating town has to offer. Food for the brain, soul and stomach – all can be found in plentiful, first-rate supply: lots of interesting shops (including the famous second-hand bookshops), boutiques, antique shops, good cafes, pubs, restaurants, galleries, a cinema, and food markets. And the countryside on your doorstep is exquisitely beautiful – dramatic or pastoral, depending on which way you turn. Sleeps 2 to 6 in 2 double bedrooms and 2 single bedrooms (plus an infant).
There is a couple's discount available for the use of one double bed at Corner House outside the holiday periods (when you book for a couple, the price automatically adjusts down).
A smartly-painted red door takes you into a hallway, then a living-room with a wood burner and a nice view of St. Mary’s Church, opening into a spacious kitchen at the back of the house. A utility-room with a downstairs loo completes the picture.
The first floor comprises a double bedroom, both single bedrooms and a family bathroom (with shower over the bath, hand basin and loo).
Another flight of stairs takes you to the master bedroom in the eaves, a lovely light room with a king-size bed, a gorgeous rug on the wall, and a view across to the Black Mountains. There is a bathroom next door (with bath, hand basin and loo).
Things to do around Corner House in Hay on Wye
This is a beautiful part of the countryside, with wonderful walks of all kinds – from meandering riverside strolls to steep climbs up big hills for breathtaking views and great picnic spots. The Black Mountains, the eastern reaches of the Brecon Beacons National Park, are on the doorstep, with a magnificent winding drive down the Llanthony Valley to Capel-y-Ffin, Llanthony Priory and Cwmyoy. In the other direction, the Black and White Trail is a fascinating tour linking picturesque local villages with their vernacular timber-framed houses. Book lovers will be delighted by Corner House’s proximity to Hay-on-Wye, as will those who treasure independent local shops, boutiques, galleries and antique emporia. Visitors will be strengthened by the best coffee, the most delicious ice-cream, and some good bistros and pubs. There are so many things to do in the area that you are spoiled for choice: from visiting interesting historical sites to more energetic exploits, such as playing tennis in the free courts nearby, gliding and paragliding at Hay Bluff, or canoeing down the River Wye.
